HEY everyone!
Sorry about last week. i promise i did write an email.bummer it didn't send. i'll have to think about what happened...
Here's a little bit of what i wrote to president last week.
Hey President! LOVED conference! i love how the questions of our souls are answered to help us become better and to help us make sure we're staying on the right path. I loved the talk by Scott Whiting how he talked about his tour of the temple and how the glass was not aligned the way it should and how he went back and there was a plant in front of it. or the wall needed to be sanded, but they covered it with wallpaper. He thought- why did it matter it was going to be covered up anyways- the imperfection wouldn't really matter, but God knows- and he knows what we're capable of and if we can be doing better- it brought me back to exact obedience the smallest things although may be hard to fix are the ones that help us truly progress the most, and although its hard, it's possible and i know that when we are we do see those blessings. So as i continue to strive for perfect obedience i know i'll be blessed for even the small and simple things.
As for Bishop and serving him we had a really cool experience. we were doing service for a family in the ward and we were going to pick up a member after to go out to find some potentials, she happens to live at obispos house and i happened to forget the bag my regular missionary clothes were in. so instead of going to change and then come back to pick up the member we decided to go get the member and then change- well obispo was there and it looked like he needed some help- we asked and he accepted. we helped him for the next hour or so to set up his gym. HE LOVES exercise! and wow! he taught us a ton. it was a small act of service, that i feel benifited us more than him.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to serve here with the people We did a TON of service last week and helped others in a different way than usual.
Our district met with President to help us with our ward, give us a new look on it and how we can better serve them, including bishop. We were so grateful for our time with President.
Ok. so i remember what happened now. We did a ton of service! We cleaned some jumpers for a less active family. we cleaned up a backyard for a family in our ward. it looks great! I think my favorite experience was going to pick up our member who lives at Bishops house for a lesson, even though the lesson fell through we were going to take her with us anyways to go find some potentials, when we got there Bishop was standing there and we said Hey Bishop! do you need some help? he's like yeah! sure! and then we moved his gym equipment around and he showed us how to properly exercise. we're going over there one morning this week. hope i can walk after. we were sore after 5 minutes of exercise.
So. yep. thats what happened.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDMA RANDALL!!! I hope it's AMAZING!
ok. so Sunday we were sitting in Relief Society and they asked anyone if they had any announcements to make.. Hermana Moran who was sitting next to Dolores said, "Hey! Dolores has an annoucement to make" Pause! i dont remember the last thing i said about Dolores, so i'll just briefly give you the run down. Her Husband Alfredo got baptized in February, her whole family are members, and we were trying to teach her, but we would only meet with them once a month, Dolores doesn't want to feel pressured into baptism, and we figured there was nothing more we could do. when she's ready, she'll be ready. So we decided to go back and finish teaching Alfredo the new member lessons and not teach Dolores anymore. Anyways.. So Dolores. stands up and said, I decided I'm going to get baptized on November 11th. My family is coming into town from mexico and i want them to be there. needless to say we were shocked! and Now Dolores has a baptismal date. She's excited. She told us she figured it was about time and then in a year she could be sealed with her husband forever. Miracles do happen!
Bishop has been telling us how there is more need for priesthood holders in the ward. We've decided to pray to find men, as Hermana Dupuis says- We've never prayed so much for men, and we've found a ton of amazing potentials. We're teaching a few right now and have a few more that we have lessons with this week. Junior- is a friend of some members in our ward. He has taken the lessons before and is really interested. He's praying to know if he should get baptized.
We are meeting with Gustavo- he's a really cool older man, and he has the strongest desire to learn more. We hope to have a tour with him this week to get him to come to church. we know he'll love it!
We have been taking Jeanett out with us on lessons and she even came with us to our mission tour with Elder Corbridge yesterday. Jeanett is thinking about going on a mission. Heck She's pretty much already a missionary. On sunday we took her out to a lesson that fell through so we went to find some former investigators. We didn't want to look like an army of 4. so instead we split up and 2 went knocking while 2 went to find the formers. She taught me a ton! Sometimes we try to get from point A to point B. maybe we're in a hurry to get somewhere else, even if we were getting in the car, she would say- I think we need to go talk to that guy. One time she said that- Hermana Dupuis got out of the car and talked to the guy with her- We're so glad they did! He said he had talked to or seen missionaries like 10 years ago and wondered what they did, they talked to him about what we do and set up a time to meet with us :)
We also are planning to have a lesson with a neighbor of Alfredo and Dolores this week, his name is Jose and we contacted him on the street a few weeks ago- He's SO cool! He actually called us to set up the lesson. He's apparently meeting with the Jehovas witnesses right now, but he wants to learn more. so hopefully he can see that we have more :)
Anyways... OH! hello! cant forget mission tour with Elder Corbridge. The theme was real growth. Something that stuck out to me was Not only in our converts need to have real growth, but we also need it in ourselves. we talked about the docterine of Christ- something so cool in the scriptures that he pointed out was that the people were astonished at his miracles and healings, but when Jesus Christ, or his apostles, or Alma in the BOM are teaching the docterine of Christ that is when the people were truly astonished. We need to astonish these people. this is something i want to do. trying to figure out how to teach like Jesus- simply and with parables that everyone can understand. lets just say its a work in progress. Along with astonishing people there are more than 2 types of people. there are actually 3. The truth seekers who we hope to find, then there are the ones who would never accept the gospel- we always think of it as black and white- either they are ready or they aren't, but the third type of people are the people who are ok with life, who aren't necesarily looking for the truth, but are only prepared if we prepare them. Basically we need to be more prepared to help those people come unto Christ. And we need to really use the atonement more. it truly is the center of everything we do.
